We are delighted to invite you to a Book Talk with Dinner on “Anglo-India and the End of Empire” by Dr Uther Charlton-Stevens, MA (Oxon), Mansfield College, DPhil (Oxon), St Edmund Hall.
Born in London, Dr Uther Charlton-Stevens grew up in Hong Kong, attending Peak School and Island School, before proceeding to Mansfield College, Oxford, for his first degree, followed by a master of science from the LSE, and a DPhil (PhD) from St Edmund Hall, Oxford, after which he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.
Celebrated as “Original, fascinating and gripping” by fellow author Benjamin Kingsbury, Anglo-India and the End of Empire was recently described in the Asian Review of Books as “a rich history of the Anglo-Indian community, people of both Indian and British heritage… [offering] valuable insight into an often overlooked, but vital, community which has so often played a key role in Indian history.” Senior scholar and author David Arnold calls it “An innovative, informative and distinctive work ”.
Having been released first in the U.K by Hurst Publishers, and shortly to be published by Oxford University Press in the United States, Anglo-India and the End of Empire is Charlton-Stevens’ second book. Since its release Anglo-India has been receiving considerable international attention and praise from reviewers. In Hong Kong Charlton-Stevens has already held successful and well-attended book talks for the Royal Commonwealth Society at the Helena May and for the Friends of LSE at the Hong Kong Club.
