Sir David Akers-Jones, KBE, GBM, CMG, Hon. RICS, JP
Sir David Akers-Jones is a former Chief Secretary of Hong Kong (1985 to 1987), and was briefly Acting Governor of Hong Kong. Today he is an independent non-executive Chairman of a number of major companies operating in Hong Kong and the PRC. For example, investment company GAM Hong Kong Limited, which has approximately 51 billion in assets under management.
Since 11 January 2010, he has also been Independent non-executive Chairman of the Board of Hysan Development Company Limited (property investment sector) and Deputy Chairman of CNT Group Limited (manufacturing and paints products, property investments in Hong Kong and the PRC). He is a non-executive director of China Everbright International Limited and K. Wah International Holdings Limited and also chairs various voluntary organisations.
Sir David Akers-Jones career in the Hong Kong Government began in 1957 after he first arrived as a soldier and became Chief Secretary. His facility with languages and ease in establishing trust and friendship opened many opportunities for travel in China and exceptional opportunities to learn directly about the People's Republic, experiences that set him apart from his colleagues in the colonial administration. In the years leading up to the transfer of sovereignty from the UK to the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1997, Sir David was appointed as an Advisor on Hong Kong Issues (港事顧問) to the Government of the PRC from 1993 to 1997.
He was awarded the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s highest award the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2002. He holds a Master of Arts Degree from Oxford University.
Sir David K.P. Li GBM, GBS, OBE, JP
Sir David K.P. Li is Chairman and Chief Executive of The Bank of East Asia. He is a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong and he is the Representative for the Finance Constituency.
He is a member of the Banking Advisory Committee and he is Chairman of the Chinese Banks' Association.
Sir David holds directorships in several international and Hong Kong listed companies and he serves on the boards of numerous international advisory boards.
Sir David is the Chairman of the Executive Committee and Council of the Hong Kong Management Association, Patron of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong, Chairman of The Salvation Army Advisory Board Hong Kong and Macau Command, Trustee of the Cambridge Overseas Trust, Chairman of the INSEAD East Asia Council, and Honorary Adviser to the International Chamber of Commerce – Hong Kong, China.
He was a member of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong Adviser to the People's Republic of China, and Deputy Chairman of the Basic Law Drafting Committee in Hong Kong.
Sir David attended the University of Cambridge, and has a MA in Economics and Law.
