at the HK Academy for Performing Arts Concert Hall
As part of the Italy 2010: Quality &
Lifestyle festival, the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong shall be holding a
performance show-casing a series of Italian musical masterworks as well as
performances on an important piece of Italian music history – Paganini’s Gut.
Paganini’s
Gut – Strings Used by One of the Greatest Violin Maestros of All Time
In 2001, an envelope containing
old gut strings and bearing the handwritten note "Antiche corde del
Violino di Nicolo' Paganini" was discovered inside the violin case of the
same violin belonging to violinist maestro Paganini. Historians have since
verified these strings to be the very original set of strings Paganini used.
The strings were subsequently measured and replicated by the expert Italian gut
string maker Mimmo Peruff. These will used by Italian violinist Andrea
Zanchetta during this performance, in an effort to bringeveryone closer to the sounds and tones
produced by one of the most remarkable violinists in the history of music.
In addition, Mr Zanchetta will be
giving a pre-concert talk about the history of Paganini and provide a
demonstration and comparison between copies of Paganini’s strings with those
made for the modern violin of today.
Robert Langston
In addition, acclaimed
musician, Robert Langston (Cambridge/Peterhouse), who is an active member of
our Society, shall be performing on the organ with the orchestra two beautiful works namely -- the famous Albinoni
Adagio and Zipoli's sublime Elevazione.
We have secured
a special price for the Society. Leanne Nicholls (Founder and Artistic Director of the City Chamber
of Orchestra of HK) has kindly extended a 20% discount to our Society at
HK$200 each – an offer that is only valid if bookings are made by 10am on
FRIDAY June 10, 2010.
