Lautau Hike and Tea

Lantau Hiking Trip and Tea

Date:

Saturday, 14 November 2009

Time:

1:00pm

Meeting Location:

Tung Chung MTR, Exit A

The walk will start at 1:00pm from Tung Chung MTR station. Our guide will be Peter Stuckey who will give us brief talks on the highlights of our trip.

A coach will take us to the starting point at Pak Mong where we can see an 18th century watchtower, an ancestral hall and a fine fung shui wall. We shall walk to Ngau Kwu Long and to Tai Ho, passing a wall painted with cultural revolution slogans and an interesting bridge, dating from 1817, which spans with the aid of a huge boulder. After crossing the pass at about 200m elevation we will arrive at the sealed entrance of the silver mine, which was closed in 1896, and we will take a breather at the waterfall. We will proceed to Silvermine Bay (Mui Wo) via the Man Mo temple. The hike which involves around 3 hours walking in the hills on concrete paths is moderately strenuous. Suitable clothing and shoes are essential. Be sure to bring water.

The Bunkers have kindly invited us for one of Sally Bunker's excellent cream teas at their delightful home in Mui Wo after the hike. Participants can make their own way home from there via the regular ferry services or buses
.

Cost will be $120 for adults and $60 for children.
