.

The Oxford & Cambridge Society of Hong Kong , in collaboration with the MIT Club of Hong Kong, is proud to announce that Mr Stephen Green, current Group Chairman and previous Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Holdings plc., has accepted invitation to be our guest speaker at a dinner talk on the evening of Wednesday, 4th November 2009. The venue and subject of the talk will be advised in due course.

Mr Green holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Exeter College, Oxford and received a master’s degree from MIT.  He began his career with the British Government’s Ministry of Overseas Development.  Following working at McKinsey & Co. in the late 70s and early 80s where he undertook assignments in Europe, North America and the Middle East, Mr Green joined The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in 1982.  He was put in charge of its global treasury operations in 1985 and became Group Treasurer in 1992.  Mr Green was appointed to the Board of HSBC Holdings as Executive Director, Investment Banking and Markets in 1998 and later assumed additional responsibility for the Group’s corporate banking business.  He was promoted to Group Chief Executive on 1st June 2003; and following Sir John Bond’s retirement from the post of Group Chairman of HSBC Holdings, Mr Green was appointed to this post on 26th May 2006.

Mr Green is an ordained minister in the Church of England, having studied at the Ming Hua Theological College whilst being based in Hong Kong, and is the author of Serving God? Serving Mammon?; as well as the recently published Good Values: Reflections on Money, Morality and an Uncertain World.  He became Chairman of the British Bankers’ Association in November 2006 and is a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Council for Britain, since its inception in July 2007.  He is also a Trustee of the British Museum.

This will be the first time that Mr Stephen Green speaks to the Society and we are extremely excited to extend this invitation to our members.
