Annual Rowing Regatta

Sunday, 31 May 2009

(rescheduled from 25 April 2009 due to poor weather)

Registration at 12:30pm.  Races commence at 2:00pm.

at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club

Middle Island, Deepwater Bay

The Annual Rowing Regatta will take place, by kind permission of the Rowing Section of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, at Middle Island, Deepwater Bay from 12:30pm on Sunday, 31 May 2009 (rescheduled from Saturday, 25 April 2009 due to poor weather).

Races will commence at 2:00pm sharp with crews representing Oxford, Cambridge, combined alumni and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club.  Some experience of rowing and/or coxing is required but crews will be of mixed ability and fitness.  Individual or crew entries are welcome.

This year we have a strong RHKYC OxBridge contingent that includes some former lightweight blues and at least one blue boat rower (with Olympic pedigree!). Expect strong blue boats, and the possibility of either separate men's and women's crews or a Goldie/Isis boat. Extra rowers from the Oxford and Cambridge Society will be needed to ensure full crews. "I haven't rowed for 20 years", and so on, is NOT an acceptable excuse!

This is a very popular family event and guests and children are most welcome to attend and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of this unique location.  Drinks can be purchased from the Rowing Section (using cash) on the roof of the boathouse during racing. Race Day Visitor Cards are available (upon application to the Rowing Coach) to enable non-RHKYC members to buy lunch, dinner and drinks using their Octopus Cards (no cash is accepted at the Club House) at the main Club House during the day or after racing. Please enquire for details to jonathan.cantwell@rhkyc.org.hk .

Prizes will be awarded, subject to final entries.

Please submit your interest in rowing ASAP so that crews can be planned.

Enquiries and registration by Wednesday, 27 May 2009 to  Michael Ng:
