ANNUAL BOAT RACE DINNER

Saturday, 24 April 2010
7:00pm Cocktail & 8:00pm Dinner

The Hong Kong Club, 1 Jackson Road, Central, Hong Kong

Members and their guests are cordially invited to our Boat Race Dinner on Saturday, 24 April at the Hong Kong Club. Cocktails will be served from 7:00pm together with the viewing of the 2010 Boat Race. The Annual General Meeting of the Society will commence at 7:00pm sharp.

The speaker to lead the toast to Oxford will be given by Mr. Rodney Ward (Queen’s College, Cambridge). Mr. Ward is Honorary President of UBS Investment Bank Asia, in which capacity he is responsible for senior level relationships in Asia. In addition, he holds non-executive directorships of two banks in the region and is a member of a committee established by Bank Negara to develop a business programme for directors of the Malaysian financial community. Mr. Ward is a former director of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and is called upon from time to time to discuss bank regulatory issues in the wake of the recent financial meltdown. He was a member of the Cambridge crews in the 1965 and 1966 Boat Races.

The speaker to lead the toast to Cambridge will be given by Mr. Timothy Beardson (Christ Church, Oxford). Mr. Beardson founded, majority-owned and ran Crosby, which became the largest independent investment bank in the Far East before he sold it in the 1990s. He is the Chairman of the China Oxford Scholarship Fund. He speaks on political, economic and strategic issues at events such as the World Economic Forum at Davos and has frequently been invited to lecture to Chinese governmental organizations on economics, finance and other subjects. He is currently writing a book, to be published by Yale, on whether China will replace the US as the next superpower and the challenges which will face China in the 21st century.

The cost of the Boat Race Dinner: HK$800/person for members and HK$850/person for guests which includes cocktails and a sumptuous four course dinner with wines. Dress code: Black Tie.
